Join us for a traditional Breton gathering on Sunday, November 22nd! Live music and dancing from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Come to dance or play or sing, or just to enjoy the festivities and hear weird instruments. Bring a dessert to share if you feel so inspired.

Jim Oakden on gaita (bagpipes), Shira Kammen on fiddle, and Ronan Keryell on bombarde

A Fest-Noz (“night festival” in Breton) is a combined dance, music, and cultural event that is the heart of social life in Brittany. A Fest Noz, or “night festival,” is an evening gathering featuring live traditional music and communal group dancing from Brittany

In keeping with tradition, our FestNoz will have:

MUSIC

We will feature a Loud Band with Shira Kammen on fiddle, Ronan Keryell on bombardes, crumhorn, and hautbois du Couserans, and Jim Oakden on guitar, bagpipes, clarinet, and more. We’ll also have a Big Band with us and a bunch of our musician friends. All music will be traditional Breton dance tunes and songs, played on acoustic instruments.

DANCE

Adrienne Simpson will be teaching the dances, joined by Bretons Ronan Keryell and Stéphanie Even. All dances will be taught, and no partners are necessary. They’re mostly line/circle dances that are easily learned on the fly.

On a limited income or willing to help? Please let us know if you would be willing to help us set up, watch the door, or clean up after the event in exchange for free entry.
